Acustimet in the Escalators of the New "Citybanan"

December 01, 2017

The artist and innovator Mikael Pauli was commissioned to design the aesthetic decoration in one of the city rail escalators at the Central Station in Stockholm.

His installation ”Moaritisk absorbent” was inspired by the archipelago waves and utilized optical moiré effects to break light waves into an appealing color scheme. The hard rock walls, however, created an echoing sound environment that was not desirable.

Sontech suggested using white-painted Acustimet plates as a sound-absorbing screen that could be integrated into the artwork.

The installation has made the station square a visual and acoustically comfortable space that can be enjoyed by thousands of travelers daily.
